Two puzzle types

From pictures and numbers to words

Picture crossword

The clues sit in the grid next to arrows, and some of them are pictures. The big picture hints at the main word, and the clue bar shows the selected clue large.

Krypto

Every letter is replaced by a number and there are no clues. A few numbers are given; you work out the rest from the words. Type a letter for a number and it fills every square with that number at once.

Example: the words SAUNA, LÖYLY and KIUAS as numbers. Number 1 is A, and number 3 has just been given the letter Y.

Solo or 2 to 8 players

One puzzle, many phones

The host starts a game, and friends nearby see it on their phones with a four-letter code. Joining takes one tap.

Games run over the same Wi-Fi network, and on iPhone and iPad also over Bluetooth, so no internet is needed. Friends play for free: joining needs no account and no purchases. Every player’s phone keeps the results.

Solo
Solve at your own pace, at three levels. Words score points, and an optional 5, 10 or 15 minute timer adds a time bonus.
Race
Everyone gets their own copy of the same puzzle. Words score points, the fastest solver earns a bonus, and the scores stay visible throughout.
Co-op
Everyone fills in the same grid together.
Teams
Split the players into teams.
Take turns
One phone goes round the table, and each player solves a word or a few of the same puzzle on their turn. Name the players and the game keeps score and finds the winner.

Frequently asked

Does Sanasauna work offline?

Yes. You can play Sanasauna entirely without an internet connection: puzzles, game progress and settings stay on your phone. The weekly puzzles unlock even offline, and party games run over Bluetooth or the same Wi-Fi network.

Do I need an account?

No. Playing needs no account and no personal data, and friends need no account to join a game.

Do my friends have to pay?

No. Friends play for free: joining needs no account, no internet and no purchases. If there is only one phone, you can take turns on it.

What languages is Sanasauna in?

The puzzles are in Finnish. The menus are in Finnish and English.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, choose Asetukset → Tili ja synkronointi → Poista tili (Settings → Account and sync → Delete account). It permanently removes your phone’s data from our server, such as the backups of your game progress, your results and usage statistics. The puzzles and your progress stay on your phone. What data does Sanasauna collect?

The app has no ads, no ad tracking and no third-party analytics, and we do not sell your data. When your phone is online, the app backs up your game progress under a random identifier and sends minimal usage statistics, which you can turn off in the settings. In party mode, data travels directly between phones. Read more: Privacy policy.
